Punta del Este

The trip from Montevideo takes about two hours, most of it on a toll road that zips right along. The land is flat and mostly unfarmed. Houses dot the landscape once the suburban areas around Montevideo are behind us. I am located right up front because the guide speaks little English – there are 40 people on the bus, 39 speak Potuguese. The guide is apologetic, but he is not to blame, his company is, since I explained I would wait until there was an English-speaking guide.

About 40 kilometers before we got to Punta del Este we got off the toll road and stopped at Piriapolis.
