CYCLADES

These islands are in a group south of the islands where we had our house in 1981. Mykonos is in the same group, Kos is much closer to Turkey and has been run by Italy, Turkey (before it was known as Turkey) and Venetians and Romans. It was retuned to Greece on 1947.

The Greek Orthodox Church is a key institution throughout the various occupations of the island. The altar and decorative icons reflect the eastern leaning of this island. The icon of Saint Nicholas was a gift of the Russians and was adopted as the patron saint of the island.
