Samarkand

Registan is a famous public space that has been on my bucket list for a long time. A 15th century square with a mosque and two madrassas was placed in an old bazaar space – registan means sandy place”.

With my iPhone only the simplest of photos can capture the quality of the space. Being there was thrilling.

Timid was responsible for the original work. The craftsman were brought from all the conquered territories he had seized. The level of craft is almost unbelievable.

This is a side wall hiding the interior court of one of the madrassa and even it is carried out elegantly.

The portrait is of Timur, but our oval guide Larissa said he looked nothing like this. This is the portrait of how he wished he looked, an idealized leader.
