More about the Rock
Sorry about the finger shadow. But this shows the geological story (short version) about Morro Rock. It does contain magma and illustration shows a process of an exploding volcano after which a magma plug stops the volcano from blowing gases and magma. This is one of a string of such plugs along the southern coast of California.
This rock and it’s volcano caused the strange configuration of land and water here. Shallows and tide pools and then a jetty that separates the ocean from the tidal waters. The rock has a hardness like granite and through the nineteenth century was used for buildings and jetties.
The waves bash the jetty as a person wades through warm water.
